Prevent Chafing this Summer with The Big Tights Company

We’ve all been there.  Wearing our favourite 50’s skirt or floaty maxi for a day exploring in the sunshine (normally with a few outdoor pub stops along the way) when the day gets ruined from a little overheating and the springs of a rash, sometimes a gaping wound, appearing between your legs from the tops of your thighs rubbing painfully against one another in the heat.

Wearing anti-chafing shorts has long been the solutions for this but I’ve often found them too long to be hidden beneath shooter skirts, or they pop out when crossing your legs in a midi skirt.   The Big Tights Company have taken this on board and bought our a shorter anti-chafing knicker that, I’m pleased to say, sits much higher up on the leg.

Please note, I’ve deliberately hiked my skirt up in all these pictures so you can get an idea of the length of these. 

The knickers (although I wore mine as shorts over the top of my knickers so that I won’t need to wash them with every wear) are made from a soft and comfy cotton material that, unlike many anti-chafing shorts, lets your skin breath in the hot weather.

They sit just above my mid-thigh covering the bulge at the top of my thighs that is the worst culprit for chub-rub.  I’m also glad to say that after several wears they have not rolled up or moved around at all.

I’m wearing the UK size 18 – 22 and they fit very comfortably.   The are nice and roomy with quite a bit of stretch to the material.   I could potentially have sized down but I was smack on the periphery of the two sizes and opted for comfort over constraint – no-one wants to be constrained on a warm, sunny, summer day.

I’m also glad to say that they seem to work!  My thighs have remained fresh, non-sticky, and chub rub free with every where and I’m pretty sure this will continue as temperatures rise.

I actually wore these a lot last week after a pair of tights slipped down and ripped holes in my thighs after a 4k walk across London.   They not only prevents further rubbing but actually soothed the sores – miraculously!

The shorts are priced at £13.95 for one or £38 for a pack of three.   They come in sizes 12 – 36 and in Black, White and Neutral colours.

I highly recommend getting yourself a pair.

Things Fat Girls Wear Too: High Legged Pants

I’ve been in a little body confidence slump lately – having spoken about it last week (and a huge thank you to all those kind enough to reach out with support, your love and caring words have meant the world) I decided to lift myself up, brush myself down, and find a way to fall back in love with myself again.

One thing that has really helped me in the past is the simple act of taking a selfie.   It is not a new concept, there is a whole movement on Instagram called #selfiesforselflove which celebrates a little bit of conceited vanity because it allows you to see the goodness in your appearance, too see the twinkle in your eye and the smile on your face and realise that, even though you may not conform to the restricted societal ideals, you are still beautiful.

Another way of picking myself back up is to show that I can wear the things that people often don’t associate (or even say shouldn’t be worn) by a fat girl.   I find empowerment in defiance and so have decided to start a little series, Things Fat Girls Wear Too – first up … high legged pants!

The preserve of smooth bellies and a lack of love-handles – the high-legged pant is something I really see on plus size instagrammers who often seem to prefer a full brief or vintage-style high-waited pant.

There are exceptions – can we take a moment to appreciate Felicity Hayward and Curvy Wordy for showing us that high-legged pants can look great on plus size gals?

Yet the norm is for big knickers.  In fact, I struggle to find a scanty thong in my size – it’s like our fat bodies must remained covered, our love handles contained, our dimpled stomachs hidden.

But I love a high-legged thong; they are light and breezy, they prevent VPL under skin tight  jeans, and they’re pretty damn sexy.
